The Lakes

Situated in the heart of the most beautiful scenery the Lake District has to offer, High Grassings is close to a number of very interesting places of interest.

Ambleside and Lake Windermere
A picturesque town at the head of Lake Windermere.  Over the ages many people have recognised the importance of Ambleside, and for different reasons.  The Romans built a fort here and you can see artefacts in the towns museum.  The town was granted a market charter in 1650 and various buildings from that period remain, like the tiny Bridge House over Stock Ghyll.  The Lakeland poets living in the area made Ambleside a very fashionable place in Victorian times.  Today it is an important Lake District centre for walking, climbing and touring in the area.

Coniston Water
Coniston Water is set in the heart of the English Lake District, in a beautiful wooded vale, with the majestic Coniston fells towering above.  Underneath the highest, Coniston Old Man, amongst cascading mountain streams sits Coniston Village.  The area abounds with spectacular waterfalls, outlying tarns and wildlife, such as red squirrels and deer.  Together with the hamlet of Torver, this is an excellent centre for discovering the many and varied local activities and pastimes, or just to relax and enjoy the wonderfully spectacular local scenery.

Esthwaite Water
